Curls naturally tend to frizz because of their curved structure. Unlike straight strands that lie flat and uniform, waves, curls, and coils twist and bend, which makes it harder for them to align smoothly.
Factors like a moisture imbalance, where dehydrated curls pull water from the air, and raised cuticles from rough handling, heat, or damage can make frizz even more noticeable.
The biggest cause of frizz, however, is often the drying method. Using a regular towel, diffusing without enough product, or touching your curls before they’ve fully set can disturb the curl pattern and create frizz. To minimise this, try using a styler that forms a stronger cast, switch to a t‑shirt or microfiber towel, and avoid touching your hair until it’s completely dry so the curls can form and set undisturbed.
